Oxford Genzyme Therapeutics operate from the Oxford Office. Genzyme Therapeutics markets products for the treatment of a number of chronic debilitating diseases. These include the rare lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) characterised by a lack of enzymes which are essential to healthy biological processes. These enzyme deficiencies are caused by genetic defects. More than 70 different disorders (each caused by a different enzyme) have been identified, all of which can trigger a variety of serious complications resulting in disability or death. By replacing the missing enzyme, disease progression can be slowed, symptoms improved and health restored. Other key disease areas for Genzyme include hyperlipidaemia, chronic kidney disease, organ transplantation and oncology where our portfolio includes a therapy used in the management of thyroid cancer, chemotherapy for types of leukaemia and a treatment to enhance bone marrow transplants through stem cell mobilisation. Genzyme also produces adjunctive treatments for surgery including an implant to reduce post operative adhesions in abdominal and pelvic surgery and, in orthopaedic surgery, cellular implants for cartilage regeneration and pain reduction in osteoarthritis. There are also a wide range of products in development for lysosomal storage diseases, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis. |
