Genzyme Therapeutics markets products for the treatment of patients with chronic debilitating diseases, including genetic disorders, such as lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) – characterised by a lack of enzymes essential to healthy biological processes. Often the result of a rare genetic defect, these enzyme deficiencies can trigger a variety of complications that can result in disability or death. By replacing the missing enzyme, we often can slow disease progression, improve symptoms and restore health.

Other key disease areas for Genzyme include hyperlipidaemia, chronic kidney disease, organ transplant and oncology where our portfolio includes an important therapy which aids in the management of thyroid cancer, as well as chemotherapy for types of leukaemia.

Genzyme also produces a product for use as an adjunct in abdominal or pelvic surgery for reducing the incidence, extent and severity of post operative adhesions at the site of placement. With a primary focus in the orthopaedic arena Genzyme also produce products for cartilage regeneration and osteoarthritis pain reduction.

There are also a wide range of products in development including a new agent to aid in stem cell mobilization.
